Assemblyman Jose Solorio's 2008 Candidate Statement: Proven Leadership on the Issues
I was honored that you elected me in 2006 to represent you in the State Assembly. As a representative for residents in Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana, I have provided new leadership on key issues that matter most to our community – preventing gang violence, improving our schools, creating new jobs, and enhancing our transportation infrastructure. As a freshman legislator, I was appointed by my colleagues to serve on four influential Assembly committees: Public Safety, Education, Transportation and Appropriations. Here at home, I have attended hundreds of events, held open houses in our Anaheim District Office, and hosted town hall meetings to listen to your concerns and ideas. As Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, I have authored important legislation to fight gangs and drugs, to rehabilitate youth and adult offenders, and to protect the community from violent criminals. Education reform is also a top priority for me. I am particularly concerned with teaching English, and successfully fought for important programs that provide English skills for children and adults. I have won many battles on your behalf, but there is more work to be done. I respectfully ask for your vote.
